Another rose field at Pole Mokotowskie
In Pole Mokotowskie Park, the third rose field, titled “The Shape of Fruit”, will bloom this autumn.

The garden layout is arranged in circular raised beds. These are planted with ornamental roses, chosen not only for their flowers but also for their decorative fruit, which will give the garden a unique character in autumn and winter.
30 carefully selected varieties of roses
Each of the raised rose beds represents a distinct, unique project – they differ in composition, planting layout, and variety selection.
We used a staggering 30 rose varieties in the project, resulting in an impressive 1,661 plants spread across a total area of 420 m². These carefully selected varieties represent the achievements of renowned breeders from various countries and eras.
Among them were the historic Rosa filipes ‘Kiftsgate’ by E. Murell (1954), the unique Rosa roxburghii with its distinctive chestnut-colored fruit, and Rosa ‘Standperle Norderney’, bred in Germany by Tantau. The composition is also enriched by the classic moss rose variety Rosa muscosa ‘Rubra’ from 1835, varieties by Polish breeder Łukasz Rojewski, prized English roses by David Austin, and selections from the Dutch nursery Rosa Mundo.
The overall design represents a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity in gardening. By using ornamental fruiting varieties and other fruiting companion plants, the garden maintains its aesthetic appeal year-round while also supporting biodiversity – providing shelter and a food source for birds and insects.
An innovative project accessible to all
Two rose fields, “Mezalians” and “Pachnidło,” were previously established in the park – this is our extensive rose collection, comprising a total of 10,600 roses in over 160 varieties!
This innovative project, available to all park visitors, was created by Łukasz Rojewski, a rose expert and breeder; Dr. Katarzyna Roguz from the University of Warsaw Botanical Garden (selection of meadow plants for the Mezalians rose field); and experts from the ZZW (ZZW) – Małgorzata Dudek-Grzegorzewska and Agnieszka Kowalska (rose field design); and Mateusz Surowcow and Anna Nowicka (graphic design).
